I have been staring at a blank notepad document for the last ten minutes, and i’m still trying, and failing, to patch last night’s quilt.

Meeting at Sunzibar. 6pm and there I was across the street waiting for a familiar face to show up, and I didn’t see one. That had me thinking that everybody was busy, but a couple of text messages said otherwise. It dawned on me that I should have been looking for cameras, not faces.

At first, conversation revolved around the usual camera talk, with our expert giving us detailed review on concepts we don’t quite grasp, then drifted to food, some animated beer tricks (i learned something new last night, thank you jayson), then a little more camera talk ending with motorcycle crashes with a cherry on top. All of that while munching away on whatever was on the table. I am amazed by the appetites, and now i start to wonder if carrying a camera around would provide such great exercise, so as to increase my food intake. o.o

Not only was I stuffed and about to be roasted, I also gained a new acquaintance.. with speed issues that left us quite confused at the end of the night… I probably should get used to new people everytime a meeting is in session..

Side dish:

A lot of pictures were taken last night: the food, people, the place. But once the el diablo platter was served, everybody suddenly became too busy holding their forks to notice their gear. Sorry guys, that was too obvious I just had to take a mental note.

It was a good night. The so-called interview I was supposed to hold ended with me interviewing the food with my fork.

And so I end this and all my caramel coated agendas sprinkled with confectioner sugar.

Photographers turned foodies. It’s fascinating how every conversation seems better with food’s divine presence. Overwhelmed as I was, I was not bothered by the fact that the people I was talking with did not even exist in my cranial consciousness till last night, as real persons lol. It actually never occurred to me that I would meet them THAT soon.

At first, it was a bit awkward not knowing anybody in the group personally, but due to the event going on, and the fact that it was the first time I stepped into the new mall (applause here), the atmosphere was a little too jovial for me to feel bashful.

As is turns out, jokes are as abundant in real life as they are in the forums, which is quite surprising since I was expecting a more serious bunch, but was great nevertheless. As in any social group, there are the usual personalities: the talkative one, the one liner comedian, the serious one, the joker, the buddies joined at the navel, and etc..

Second day: Leysam Foodies

The event started at around noon, and I was lucky enough to arrive by then, breaking the 11am promise of presence. Lecture = Winner! (Applause for Mr. Charlie David Martinez). I assume everybody was enthusiastic because this was the first time a lecture was held by the LSF. I’m so lucky.

Next stop: Bethel International School. Food = Winner! (Applause for mano Tito)

I will then be stating the obvious fact: These people LOVE food, perhaps at a level at par with their passion for photography (who knows). There was seldom a dull moment, for animated conversations filled the air as long as there was chow on the plate. The table is a photoshoot, the forks are the cameras. It was quite homey for a first-time gathering with the other members. Somehow it was not that awkward, considering I was new (by this time i have arrived to the conclusion that i must be extremely FC). (FC = Feeling Close)

(yummy BBQ!)

(Puso)

(Tacloban’s BBQ at night)

Next Stop: Sunzi and Manang’s. Food = Winner! (as always. applause for kuya Alfred)

(Manang, owner of famous BBQ stand in Tacloban City)

Photography and food: happiness and fulfillment under the sun, moon, or the pale glow of a fluorescent light. Better together.
